Description

The Douglas pear originated by Mr. O. H. Ayer, in Douglas County, Kansas in the 1890’s.  The variety was heavily promoted by Mount Hope Nurseries and was widely grown.  Douglas is a hybrid between Kieffer and Duchesse d’Angouleme. Sweet slightly wine like flavor with medium texture.  Extremely heavy bearing and quick to produce.
